Oct 2024 - present

About Verve
Verve are an open banking cashback platform with a multi-stakeholder ecosystem, providing value added services to three customer audiences - consumers, brand marketers and strategic partners.
My role as UX/UI Designer
When I joined the team at Verve the business had just gone through a rebrand, and had only ever had occasional fleeting freelance designers available. This was a great foundation for me to come in and take ownership of everything.
I work on the consumer B2C app - Working on conducting research, user testing, ideation, wireframes, and high-fidelity polished user experiences and user interfaces for iOS and Android. Collaborating closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders. Designing data-driven and human-centric experiences.
Key Problems
Lack of user research and user testing practices in place - no data to feed back into product development
No Figma files (Single source of truth)
Lack of a design identity and consistency
Poor user retention and high number of app deletes
Lack of relevant or compelling recognisable brands and offers on the app

Proposed solution
Support the launch of Gift Cards, another cash back offer type that unlocks access to 300+ household name brands to be onboarded onto the Verve platform. This was a huge chance to the enhance the overall user appeal of the app to improve user engagement and retention.
Proactively introduce Maze user research and testing tool to start gathering insights to feed back into the design process
Produce a design system from scratch and document for future-proofing

Learnings
Sometimes you have to make compromises as a designer to support short term business goals or the context of the situation you find yourself in. E.g. I wanted to do a full app tear down and rebuild with thorough user research and testing to support but the business needed to get the new Gift Card feature live to move towards profitability. Therefore I had the challenge of retrofitting bolt on designs that would have maximum impact with minimal build time for the developers.
